Bio
Coach DeGrenier arrived on the Cathedral Close as a full-time Physical Education teacher and coach in 1995. Jane DeGrenier is one of the leading club and high school field hockey coaches in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. A former collegiate field hockey and lacrosse coach, Jane has specialized since the mid-1990s in coaching and mentoring high school-aged field hockey players as the Head Field Hockey Coach at the National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C.; Head Coach of the Southeast Storm Field Hockey Club organization; and the former Region VII Director of Coaching for the United States Field Hockey Association Futures Program (2007-12). Additionally, DeGrenier holds a Level 2 coaching certification from the United States Field Hockey Association. At the school and club levels, Jane has coached numerous all-league, All-Met, and High School All-American players, many of whom have gone on to distinguished collegiate field hockey careers at academically competitive institutions such as Amherst College; Bates College; Brown University; Columbia University; Georgetown University; Haverford College; Harvard University; Kenyon College; Oberlin College; Stanford University; the University of Pennsylvania; and Williams College. In addition to her experience as a college, high school, club and Futures coach, Jane has the perspective of a successful competitive athlete—she was a member of a National Championship Field Hockey team at Ithaca College; participated in a total of five NCAA Final Fours in field hockey and lacrosse; and has had a sterling post-collegiate club career with the Washington Field Hockey Association, Southeast Field Hockey Association, and East Coast Premier Indoor Field Hockey Association.

Jane’s collegiate coaching career—at Division I Richmond and as Head Coach at Division III Hollins College—along with her current secondary school, club, and Futures coaching experience, has given her valuable insight into the college recruiting process as she helps high school players develop their talents and gain exposure. Most recently, during a semester-long sabbatical from NCS, Jane served as the Director of Operations for the University of Maryland field hockey program during the 2011 season. During her tenure with the Terps, Jane gained valuable experience in every aspect of working with a highly competitive Division I program, including hosting the ACC Championships and the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The experience culminated with a trip to the Final Four in Louisville, KY and a National Championship!!

Jane’s coaching philosophy emphasizes on-field creativity, mental preparation and competitive focus, and a fostering in her players of the same love of the sport that brought her into playing and coaching field hockey. Jane and her husband Carl have two young children, a boy, Christopher, and a girl, Katie, both of whom can often be found with (very small) field hockey sticks in hand.

Bio
Suzanne Woods has been part of the NCS Varsity Field Hockey coaching staff since 2006, serving as varsity assistant and as interim head coach during Coach DeGrenier's Fall 2011 sabbatical. Coach Woods played Division I field hockey at Yale, where she twice received All-Ivy recognition and captained the team her senior year. She was also a four-year member of the Yale Varsity Women's Lacrosse Team. When not coaching field hockey for the Eagles, Coach Woods can be found across the Close at St. Albans School, where she is the Director of the St. Albans School of Public Service; a faculty member in the Upper School History Department; a Form VI Advisor; and the faculty advisor to the STA/NCS Government Club.
