Annette Nazareth to Deliver Commencement Address

NCS Governing Board member and former SEC commissioner Annette L. Nazareth will deliver the address at National Cathedral School's 117th Commencement, to be held in the Washington National Cathedral on June 10, 2017.

Ms. Nazareth has devoted her professional life to working in, for and with financial services, both in the private and public sectors. She is a partner at the international law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell, where she leads its trading and markets practice, advising clients on complex regulatory matters and transactions. She has been repeatedly recognized as a leading lawyer in this area, and Markets Media recently bestowed on her a lifetime achievement award.

Ms. Nazareth's career also includes a decade of government service. She joined the Securities and Exchange Commission as senior counsel to the chairman and later became Director of the Division of Trading and Markets. In 2005, President George W. Bush appointed Ms. Nazareth as an SEC commissioner, a role she held until 2008, when she returned to Davis Polk.

Ms. Nazareth is a graduate of Brown University, where she is a trustee emerita, and Columbia Law School. She and her husband, Roger Ferguson, have two children, Caroline '13 and Roger III (STA '09), who have connected them deeply into the life of the Close. Their many contributions to NCS over the years have done much to improve the school's facilities, most visibly the reading room in the Jane Craige Gray '32 Library and the turf fields at the Athletic Center that bear their names. Ms. Nazareth's service on the Governing Board, through which she also serves on the executive, audit, compensation and governance committees, concludes this June after seven years.

The commencement ceremony will begin at 5 pm, and it will be livestreamed online through the NCS home page.
