National Cathedral School (NCS) announces a search for a ¾-time Latin Teacher.  The position begins in August 2014.

The primary goal of the middle school Latin program is to introduce students to the fundamentals of Latin vocabulary, grammar, and syntax, while fostering the skills required for foreign language study. Students explore all aspects of the Roman world to gain an appreciation of the influence of Roman culture and civilization.
 
The Position:
We are seeking a ¾-time Latin Teacher.  Responsibilities will focus on our Middle School Latin program with some participation in the Upper School program. The position begins in August 2014. Qualified candidates are able to teach all levels of Latin, and, possibly Greek. Teachers from diverse backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. 
 
The school day is from about 7:45 a.m. through about 3:45 p.m. Other responsibilities include regular department, division, and faculty meetings. Teachers are also responsible for supervision of students in a variety of settings, some committee and administrative work depending on workload, background, and experience. Salaries are competitive, based on experience and include a full benefits package including professional development.
 
Qualifications:
  •  A strong background in Classical Studies, with emphasis on the study of the Latin language
  • Teaching experience at the middle school and commitment to working with this age group
  • Mastery of varied and creative pedagogical approaches
  • Demonstrated interest in curriculum development and assessment
  • Personal skills needed to work collaboratively with colleagues in a school-wide department
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
